Elkin NC is technically in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, but it offers small mountain town charm. There are lots of river and several excellent North Carolina State Parks nearby, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is just 20 minutes west of town. To visit Carter Falls without hiking hundreds of miles, there’s an access point less than five miles from Elkin.
